Dr. Porter and Dr. Townsend, I believe I am the best candidate to help the school reach their goals, since we have the same values in what we expect to take place in a fourth and fifth grade social studies classroom. It is important for students to start to develop content knowledge, important skill areas, and basic behaviors while they are in my classroom. In each area of these areas, I have ways to help the school reach their goals. The three areas are the building blocks for the students to grow up and be active citizens. I will strive to help every student that walks through my door, they will start to develop the skills needed. I can help students develop in their affective domain. I will provide students with the opportunity to explore ideas about values, issues, problems, and questions. In my social studies classroom, I will help students clarify their own attitudes, beliefs, and values. This will help students understand themselves and the bigger world better. I will implement these ideas all throughout the students’ journey in my classroom. If I have a student that is shy and is scared to read the Preamble aloud in class, I may encourage the student to do it. When students are presenting projects in class that students may have different views about, I will help students develop the ability to be more accepting and tolerant of different views. An example that will be implemented in my classroom, is that when students are presenting information about the different political parties, I will help students be more respectful towards what their peers may say in their presentations. This will allow the students in my classroom to be shaped into being more accepting and tolerant of ideas and what their peers may think is different or wrong. I will present students with opportunities to have learning experiences that challenge their inner selves. Students will be given the chance to feel and react about social studies topics to remember the topic. Dr. Porter, and Dr. Townsend, I know your opinion on implementing children’s literature in the classroom to help students reach the goals in this area and I am the educator to implement this in my classroom. For example, when students are learning about the first integration of African American students and white students, I will read the book The Story of Ruby Bridges. I will provide students the opportunity to connect and not only listen to the words, but also the opportunity to look at the pictures. Students will be able to see
