Hello, my name is Joshua Pittman and I am a current student at Bowie State University. I am a freshman and my major is Communications. My expected graduation year is 2022 and I’m pursuing my bachelor’s degree. Communications interest me because it requires hard work and socialization. Communication is the most important thing in society today. Without communication, our community would not be able to advance and grow as a whole. My primary goal for going to school and becoming a leader is inspired by my mother, who had passed away when I was a baby. These are my goals in life that I plan to pursue. Cigarette smoking is very dangerous and leads to a negative impact on public health. The negative impact of smoking on public health is that smoking leads to disease and harms nearly every organ of your body. Smoking can lead to a lot of continuing complications that are in the body, as well as a number of long term effects on your body’s systems. While some smoking increases people’s risks of a variety of problems for several years, some of the bodily effects are immediate. Cigarette’s contain at least about 600 ingredients. A lot of these ingredients can be found in cigars and hookahs. When these ingredients are burning they generate more than 7,000 chemicals, according to an American lung association. Many of those chemicals are very poisonous and at least 60 of them are linked with cancer. Smoking damages people’s central, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, reproductive, and integumentary system. Smoking damages the central system by the use of nicotine. Smoking effects the respiratory system by the inhaling process of smoking. When people inhale smoke, they take in substances that can damage their lungs. Over time, this damage can cause serious lung conditions such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and lung cancer. Withdrawal from tobacco products can cause respiratory discomfort and temporary congestion as people’s lungs begin to heal. Smoking damages the cardiovascular system by nicotine causing the blood vessels to tighten up and this restricts the flow of blood. Over time the ongoing damage to people’s blood vessels cause peripheral artery disease. Not only does smoking impact people’s cardiovascular health, but it also effects the health of those that don’t smoke because their around it. The exposure to secondhand smoke carries the same risks to non-smokers to someone that does smoke. Smoking effects the integumentary system by skin changing. Substances in tobacco smoke can really change the structures of people’s skin over time. Also, hair loss is another risk involving the integumentary system and smoking.
