During a study tour when I was in high school, I got the golden opportunity to visit a 230MW Hydro Power Plant at Kaptai, Rangamati. Naturally, the first thing that caught my eye was the huge turbine. It was initially hard to comprehend that such a massive machine along with a generator could produce electricity without any emissions whatsoever. I was totally mesmerized by the whole process and it was the first time when my curiosity for energy field started to grow. Since then, I realized this was something I would like to further increase my knowledge upon.
When I got chance to admit to the undergraduate program at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), I decided to join the Mechanical Engineering department as it would …show more content…

As I am determined to work in this field, I feel that it is time to explore the world of advanced research. My curiosity for knowledge and research in the field of energy stimulates me to search for the perfect environment where I will be able to prove my potential. After carefully reviewing the Michigan Technological University website, I feel that this is the right place to pursue my graduate study. MTU is the home of several faculties with research interests that match closely with my own. Professor Fernando Ponta comes to my mind. His paper on marine-current power generation and research works focused on the study of wind turbine are highly admirable. I would be very interested in working with Dr. Ponta on studying the structural behaviors and aerodynamics of wind turbines. Research works by Dr. Kazuya Tajiri on Polymer Electrolytic Fuel Cell also inspired me largely. Various research projects focused on alternative fuels, for instance, Dr. Scott Miers’s current project on the enhancement of corn-based fuel and Dr. Jeffrey Naber’s works on the application of biofuels in advanced combustion engines, also encouraged me. Hence, I am interested to pursue the PhD program in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Technological University. I am confident that I will be able to learn and make significant contributions in research and development programs of the University.
