My entire middle school had around fifty students! This environment and my introvertness made it easy to want to do everything myself without working with or accepting help from others. Group projects certainly reinforced this idea repeatedly. While I am certainly still independant, being a successful college student requires a good degree of this, I am now much more willing to a group participant than when I was younger. I would say Boy Scouts was the first step to this change.
I gave back to my scouting community by taking the place of the older scouts and help lead the troop, guiding the younger scouts on their journeys to Eagle in the same manner as the older scout did with me. I also learned about the importance of volunteer work. I volunteer at the public library, and would help out in the afterschool “Math Lab”, tutoring students struggling with understanding what they were learning in their math classes. To this end, I live by the Boy Scout slogan: “do a good turn
I am looking for more than just academics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During my four years at Northwood High School, I became involved in numerous academic and extracurricular activities. As a result, I have been recognized and honored for achievements both inside and outside of school. I realize that titles and academic achievements are limited, but some of the impact I have on my community and other people’s lives is what really matters. Therefore, I plan to continue my active involvement in extracurricular activities while I am a college student.
I personally believe that a big part of the mission for many high schools across the country is to help guide the students with what they want to do with their life. Students are at the point in their life where they are picking a career and possibly a college. I want to be there to help students figure out what they want to do and how to accomplish those goals. The students in high school are starting to be independent people and I think it is part of our job to help them prepare for their future endeavors; whether it be continuing their education or attaining a job upon graduation, and to encourage them and be a support system along the way.
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” The meaning about this quote from Malcolm X to myself, it shows the institution I attend gives me a passport to my career by helping me define my career goals by attending college to further my education to achieve life goals. Malcolm X has influence my life in so many ways. He was one of the greatest influence leaders of all time. Malcolm X, used knowledge to outsmart others around the nation throughout history.

Social work is a career that I have recently become interested in pursuing. I spent many years with misconceptions concerning the sector. However, following three years of working close by these experts, I have picked up a more profound comprehension of the significance of the work. I am especially interested in working in child welfare along with terminally ill children. I have got to a stage in my career where I have started to search out instruction that will make me more efficient in creating plans and providing services for vulnerable people.
The more I don’t know, the more I know. The more I realize I don’t understand, the more I discover my desire to know more about psychology. My interest in educational psychology was triggered by my first experience in changing schools.
The past four years of my life hold both my highest of highs and my lowest of lows. High school can be a very awkward time period in a person’s life. Four years ago, I made the intimidating switch from St. Mary’s School to Algoma High School. There were certain aspects of high school which made me nervous, but academics was not one of them. I learned how to be a responsible student in my earlier years, and school had always come relatively easy to me.
