I personally believe that a big part of the mission for many high schools across the country is to help guide the students with what they want to do with their life. Students are at the point in their life where they are picking a career and possibly a college. I want to be there to help students figure out what they want to do and how to accomplish those goals. The students in high school are starting to be independent people and I think it is part of our job to help them prepare for their future endeavors; whether it be continuing their education or attaining a job upon graduation, and to encourage them and be a support system along the way.
In order to help students along the way and to ensure that they have access to the necessary resources that will lead them to success, it is important to first develop positive relationships with our students. This starts by creating and maintaining a safe environment in our classroom. Our students need to feel secure when they walk in the doors as well as cared for. A good start to this process is trying to notice and analyze small patterns in the individual student’s behavior or personality. Students know when a teacher is not excited about what they are teaching and do not get excited. However, if the teacher is excited and passionate about what they are teaching students pick up on it and get more excited. This can be done in many different ways such as building students up in the classroom. For example, before my FBE teacher would call on her students she would say that she knows they have the right answer and that they are going to tell everyone the right answer because they know. This built the students up and showed that she was invested in the class and excited to hear from
