Dentistry is an academically and professionally challenging career that would allow me to utilise my scientific skills and knowledge whilst working within a healthcare environment, contributing to general wellbeing and confidence of others. The practical aspect of dentistry is highly interesting, making it a dynamic and unique career. My willingness to learn and interest in Science has led me to study Chemistry and Biology at AH level. Through this, I have developed strong written and communication skills through conducting complex practical investigations which I enjoy and by constructing reports. I take interest in learning about human physiology and received a silver award in the Royal Society of Biology challenge.

I was chosen to be a part of Dental Insight, a 3-day programme run by Dundee University.
Through shadowing clinics, I gained invaluable insight, from a student's perspective. In Oral surgery and periodontics, I observed the importance of teamwork and cooperation which enhance patient experience and quality of care. In the clinical skills room, I gained hands-on experience with phantom heads, taking impressions and observing treatments. To further my knowledge, I organised a work placement at a dental practice. I was particularly impressed by the detail of the dentist and their skill in time planning. I was made aware of the pressure and time constraints in dentistry. By observing a range of procedures, I saw the importance of both building trust and the continuity of care between dentist and patient. I witnessed the different attitude of the dentist towards a young, apprehensive patient who had additional needs, to reassure him. This highlighted the importance of adaptability. Time spent at a dental lab allowed me to understand the important role of a dental technician where I gained hands on experience which helped improve my
