Our society has been founded on the principles of beginning one’s life through flourishing in an education system. Building a foundation to build on as one ages has proven to be substantially beneficial, yet it is not without its advantages and disadvantages. Being a high schooler, my experience is well defined and unique compared to those who are younger to me, as they are still going through what I have passed and learned from. High school is distinctive in that it not only prepares you for the life upcoming, but creates an environment analogous to the difficulties of the modern world. Yet, what a person cannot perceive is what the life within a home symbolizes. If we are to consider a simple family with two parents and two children, this concept can be easily explained. The parents are involved in their daily work to earn a specified sum to support and raise the family, while the children are being educated to eventually play the role or one similar to that of their parents. Each parent strives and works hard to obtain that money by working in a private company, serving the nation, educating young children, etc. This hard work and passion is indicative of the struggle for success and the American Dream. Mothers and fathers often travel long distances to get to their jobs and perform their obligation to a specific corporation, and gaining compensation in return. Henry David Thoreau once said, “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.” This struggle for success embodies the factual basis on which people become successful- by endeavoring to become so. This determination to reach the goal is why parents are successful, and why every American follows in the same path. This struggle for success embodies a microcosm for the same property in modern society, where every individual embarks on a journey to reach a goal or attain enlightenment, but to do so, they must travel through various hardships and obstacles.
