College football is an arduous sport to play, it is stressful physically and mentally. Therefore, the players should be paid for their hours and hours of hard work. College football players should absolutely be paid for what they do on and off the field. Some think players should not be paid because education comes first, or that paying the players will make the school go broke. These college players need to be paid because it keeps players in school, players take risks on their bodies for their school, and being paid will help teach college football players financial responsibility.
Student athletes should not get paid because the full-ride scholarships that usually pay for you to go to the university pays for your entire education at the university. Jason Whitlock wrote about college athletes not being paid on Gale Opposing Viewpoints. “We need to stress to them that the educational opportunity they have been afforded is more valuable than the ‘pocket money’ an Ed Martin can provide.” Also, if the player is good enough they could be drafted or go professionally to a pro team in whatever sport that they are decent in. Then again, if we pay these collegiate athletes while receiving scholarship money, “the NCAA admits that a ‘full scholarship’ does not cover the basic necessities for a student-athlete.
Have you ever thought why college athletes should get paid? Paying them in college might help them later in life. Paying them will help them save up their money on stuff they need later in life. Taking a look at the average college student, should they be paid for what they are studying? Probably not. Then why should college athletes be paid? They shouldn 't get paid just because of their athletic ability. They shouldn 't be paid because they are students, not professionals.
College athletes deserve to be paid because they are the only ones not being paid in the college sports industry. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) generates eleven billion dollars annually, some of which could, and should go to college athletes. “USA Today reported last year just how much money the top 10 coaches in college football made. Nick Saban from Alabama topped the list earning roughly $5.5 million in 2013 alone” (Seibold). The coaches are making millions of dollars and the players aren’t.

At least they receive something which is an athletic scholarship, that covers their room and board ,tuition and fees, and books.

As the school year comes to a close and the only thing on a senior’s mind is how are they going to pay for college? Throughout our high school careers we always get asked what our plans are after high school and never how are you going to pay for that next step of your life after high school. We barely get prepared for the real world in high school we are forced to take classes the school thinks will be good for us not what we think or what will be best for what we want to study for in college. How are high schoolers supposed to be able to pay for college when they don’t get prepared enough in high school to go on to that next level of schooling and have to more than likely go into debt just to be able to pay for it. Colleges should no longer cost an insane amount of money to go there.

The NEA claims : many teachers say, “Paying students for good grades leads to practical problems in their classrooms, including pressure to inflate grades and conflict with students and parents.” This means students are more likely to be in bad moods and have bad relationships with parents and classmates. If some kids get money and the rest don’t, arguments will break out. In a classroom, students are supposed to be respectful to each other in order to have and efficient working environment.
