English 110 class truly helped her grow as writer. She took the structure and conformity she learned from her high school and applied it to a creative and freethinking side she learned from college to formulate her own personal writing style. Her attention to detail has improved causing her grammar and word choice to be even clearer. Most importantly, her enthusiasm for writing has drastically developed. Mary Anne knows the next three and a half years of paper writing will be a breeze because of the proper English introduction to a great liberal arts
I took AP English Language and Composition during the 2016-17 school year. My overall grade in the class was an A. Participating in this class taught me invaluable lessons about how to convey my ideas clearly both in written and spoken word. In-class essays and the rigor of larger projects taught me to focus not only on what I was writing, but also how I was writing it. Techniques for editing and reading that I learned in AP Lang have made it easier to read my writing with more self-awareness, and also to consider how it will be interpreted by my audience and what I can do to influence that interpretation. Having taken AP Lang, I now feel more confident approaching nearly any English-related assignment, and know that I have the skills necessary
I began my year with four classes and one of them was my fourth block class, Dual Enrollment English 111. Typing papers and discussing interesting readings from the textbook has always been a good end to my day. Through the many English classes I have taken, this class has taught me the most so far. The experiences that I have in this class will guide me through college with a stronger understanding on how to write effectively and efficiently. Through Dual Enrollment English, I have learned how to write a well thought out paper while managing my busy schedule and have learned many lessons along the way.
Over the course of this class I have greatly improved my writing skills. Although I have kept my grade at a 95% for each paper, it is evident that I am a different type of writer from when I wrote my first paper in this class. By improving on quote integration, correct grammar, and strong thesis', I have been able to become a more skilled and better all around writer. It is especially clear to see the improvement in my spelling and grammar. On the first paper I made 6 mistakes, the second paper 4, and the final paper none.
The English 1300 class has helped me to improve and develop my writing skills in several ways. Primarily this class has helped to reduce the stresses that I have always felt when a report or essay was asked for. Contributing and being involved in this class will have substantial influence in future English classes and all classes no matter what the subject. I have discovered that my previous classes in High School served only as minimal effort and upon entering college the rules have been amplified and are crucial to a timely completion of your classes and ultimately college. Feedback was critical and valued.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
I have struggled with every paper since lesson three, but I am still hopeful that my writing skills will improve. English was no longer the easy class I had remembered it to be. I feel there were lessons that I benefited more than others; however, I feel each lesson was necessary to improve my skills as a critical thinker and a writer. The most important things that I learned from English -A is the importance of maintaining proper consistency when writing.
After being a member of this class I realize being successful in life or school requires the ability to organize, arrange and compose thoughts into a comprehensible format. I learned what makes a paper good or bad and what makes it easier to write a good paper and how much effort you put into learning the material will translate into making you a better writer. Reflecting on the past months I have notice that our English 1010 class I have learned skills necessary to develop narratives, informative, research and persuasive essays. These are essential attributes needed to become successful in today’s society. In previous English courses that I have been in.
These approaches derive from my personal learning experience as an English Language Learner (ELL) and international student in the US, work experience at the OSU’s CSTW where I had numerous opportunities to teach and provide writing feedback to domestic and international undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral students, post-docs, and visiting scholars. Writing genres covered college compositions, research papers, multimodal texts, conference papers and posters, Master’s theses, dissertations, academic journal articles, grant proposals, job required materials, and multimodal texts (e.g., websites, PowerPoint slides, and video clips). Types of writing consultations contained face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous consultations and semester-long writing groups. Knowing about students’ learning backgrounds and needs enable me to understand academic writing difficulties they encountered in the past, foresee possible writing difficulties in their present learning settings, and know their learning needs and teaching methods that I could adopt to motivate and effectively teach them. Then, teaching lessons are designed based on this information to effectively enhance their academic competence.
Kate Chopin wrote about subjects that took place during her lifetime. Many of them still are a part of United States today. In “Desiree’s Baby,” Chopin offers a review of how other’s attitudes affected the racial prejudice in the South. In addition, Chopin likes to explore the status of both those without a family and those of biracial families. Desiree is unlucky enough to end up on the wrong side of both characteristics.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
Living with Social Anxiety Disorder By: Brandi Jester Thesis: Have you ever been excited about going out and canceled at the last minute? Had to tell someone that you were not feeling good or that you could not go because you had a last-minute emergency? When the real reason you can not go is because you did not want to leave the house is because you’re anxious about the people you will run in to. The crippling thought of having to speak to others, how you will look to them, and how they judge you.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
The method of research, citing facts, and brainstorming ideas was very intense in this class. Reading various arguments debating the topic I want to write on, was very challenging and time consuming. In this reflection essay I want to show how researching process was vital on changing my writing style. Also, what I’ve learned in English 105 class after a great summer semester with lots of material to learn from. Researching was drastically important, making every paper I made heavily based on research.
