Some recent volunteer activities/events were free yoga in the park, a canned good drive, and a free dental clinic for those in need. A graduate
During the past few years, I have had many volunteer and leadership opportunities both in and outside of school. Truth be told, I’ve never been the most outgoing person, but many of these opportunities have helped me to step outside my comfort zone, and take leadership various situations. Through my volunteering experiences, I’ve learned many lessons. I believe that going to Archbishop MacDonald high school will continue to push me outside my comfort zone and become a great leader in my community.
I attended the Texas Alliance of Ground Water Districts annual conventions and worked a booth to talk to those currently working in the water industry. The over 400 volunteer hours teaching locally on water management and education allowed me to connect the 4-H program with my community improving relationships with local
Of my many volunteer and paid extra-curricular activities, the most important to me is the National Art Honor Society, which extends artistic activities to my community. We organize two school events: the Festival of Trees and the Talent Competition. The Festival of Trees is an event when every school club can choose to donate and decorate a tree that we set up. All of the money raised goes to an organization of our choice. For the last 4 years, we have donated to Street Grace, which benefits the fight against human trafficking, especially in the Metro Atlanta area.
I have done a toy drive for the CT Children 's Med Center for 6th and 7th grade. NJHS is about helping our school and community. Helping with the toy drive helped me understand how to do things like that, which can help with any drives NJHS will plan in the future. I also helped with a clothing and toiletries drive for the women’s shelter. This can again help with planning any school drives that might be done by NJHS.
It has been been a goal of mine to attend the United States Naval Academy after visiting Annapolis with my grandparents in 2012. Since visiting the Naval Academy I knew that I wanted to serve America with the utmost honor and integrity. The Naval Academy Summer Seminar would give me the ability to hone my leadership skills and give me valuable experience that I could use as a Navy Midshipman and throughout life. This summer experience is an opportunity of a lifetime because it will allow me to understand and benefit from the mental and physical challenges the academy provides. Challenging myself at the Naval Academy Summer Seminar would be greatly beneficial for me because I will have the confidence and skills to make decisions
I have always enjoyed my work in Science Olympiad and my participation as a Boy Scout of Troop 29, primarily due to the tangible results that represented a physical culmination of my time and effort. During my time participating in Science Olympiad, I always gravitated towards the engineering events, as these allowed me to apply my knowledge to a physical construct that I could design, create, and modify to achieve the greatest efficiency. Similarly, in my experience as a Boy Scout, I always most enjoyed helping with the Eagle Scout projects, as each of these actively worked towards creating a visible effect on the community, and my own Eagle Project allowed me to incorporate my interests in engineering and Scouting to develop a water conservation
People shouldn’t have to spend $200 or more per week for child care. Taxes should be spent to keep daycares up and running during the day. some families can’t afford extra things like having to pay someone to watch their child but, they work so would need someone to watch the children until they get home. Daycare’s should be funded by the government, It’s important that kids go to daycare because they are getting the materials they need to go off to real school in daycare.
I have been babysitting for just over 4 years now. I have experience watching kids aged newborn- 10 years old. I have worked for two different families over long periods of time. I have a 6-week-old daughter, 2 cats and a dog. I enjoy doing crafts, coloring and activities that include learning with the children.
In 2016, I went to the National Fall Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I also have participated in the Splash Against Cancer event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. All of these experiences have taught me that it is important to help
Volunteering at McKenna Farms Therapy Services I was able to observe pediatric occupational therapy sessions. Not only did I get to observe Occupational Therapy sessions, but I observed Hippotherapy sessions too. What I found so unique about McKenna Farms is that they had Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist all together at one clinic. This allowed me to witness how the different types of therapy fit together and how the therapist would collaborate to find the best way to treat the children. My favorite part was finding ways to communicate with the kids.
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
In the first year, I was a part of a pioneering youth development team in Americorps NCCC Southwest Region. I worked with K-12 students in title one schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, Habitat for Humanity, local non-profit organizations, The Red Cross and The Salvation Army. I spent my second year working with underserved youth as a volunteer coordinator for Reading Partners in DC. I learned about the struggles that the students I worked with dealt with every day. I was also able to interact with parents and provide resources for education, housing, food, and nutrition.

I used to be a shy kid. The kind of hiding-behind-your-mother’s-legs kind of shy. In elementary school I did not approach anyone to come and play with me. In middle school I was used as a messenger between fighting girls. I didn’t want that job, it was a job that was given to me, forced upon me.
