A questionnaire to Clarify my Thinking

1. Do you have a culture: Yes. My culture and Heritage is Hispanic and even though I have lived here in the United States for 15 years, I keep all my traditions intact in my heart and mind. The most important tradition is to love your family above all, and to always help each other no matter the circumstances.
2. I lived in California for 10 years; then, I moved to Michiana 5 years ago with my husband and two daughters. My neighborhood is predominantly Caucasian and we are the only Hispanics living in the area. SBCSC has a dual language immersion program which I believe will help students and society understand more about different cultures. The reason I decided to pursue ECED is because

It is different specially if you come from a predominant patriarch culture. In America, I feel that both woman and man have the same level of opportunities; whereas, In Latin Culture, woman tend to be marginalized to be a housewife.
5. I feel great! I think it is important to respect other cultures. I always speak Spanish with my daughters because I want them to speak, read, and write it. I do not get offended when I see and hear Asians, or Indians speaking their native language.
6. As an immigrant myself, I understand they why’s many Anglos cannot understand about our current immigration issues. It is inevitable that Spanish Language will be the second most important language in the United States; therefore, I would love to see more schools teaching a second language as part of the curriculum. I would also love to break the gap between Latinos and Anglos in terms of opportunities. I hope to graduate next year, so I can help my community in every way possible.
