Pride and honor The suitors seem dangerously proud, especially when Odysseus returns. In the end, the suitors have dishonored Odysseus and must pay for this. Justice Odysseus, like Orestes, will eventually be a deliverer of justice. Justice takes time. Neither Orestes nor Odysseus can act immediately.
Scientists take the unknown and make it known. The audience will better understand the scientific method if it seems logical. Including examples of Einstein, accepting scientific theories, and designing experiments show that the basis of Barry’s argument is factual. “Einstein refused to accept his own theory until his predictions were tested,” showing even the best of the best scientists study with uncertainty. Barry’s appeal to logos helps characterize the intellectual side of science.
There is nothing wrong with pride, but there is something wrong with letting pride destroy relationships. John Proctor, from the Crucible (Arthur Miller), is a character of many words. Whether he be proud, stubborn, foolish, or noble, the decision has been laid out and the calculations completed. In the end, he saves his soul, but his life is lost forever. Pride has lead John to the court, but a change in thought leads him to nobles actions which result in horrible consequences.
Situation: This piece of writing is argumentative based to discuss how scientism is not necessarily the answer to everything but plays a large role in society. In 2012, author Massimo Pigliucci uses the show “The Big Bang Theory” to discuss how science is highly important and necessary for our world to grow, but cannot replace literature, philosophy, and art because each aspect is needed for humans to thrive. An example from the text being that character Howard from the show has an equation to calculate his chances of having sex by figuring out the number of single women who may find him to be attractive (pg. 279). Pigliucci is pointing out that instead of exuding confidence and finding a female to talk to, Howard just uses science to justify why he can or cannot find a female to be with. The same issue is involving Sheldon when he creates “The Friendship Algorithm” in order to make friends (pg. 280).
In The Crucible written by Arthur Miller in 1953, Miller illustrates the importance of seeing past pride and listening to other people. The Crucible is about the small town of Salem Massachusetts. The story takes place during the Salem witch trials. It is centered on a few main characters, Reverend Parris, Reverend Hale, Abigail Williams, some other girls in the town, John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, and Judge Danforth. Abigail is a 17-year-old girl who is trying to lie her way back into John Proctor’s heart.
Pride Over Everything The Crucible is a play rooted in the issue that people often care more about their titles than the truth. There is lying, cheating, and falling into guilt that occurs, but it is all pushed under the rug in order to keep the people's name respectable. The definition of pride is the consciousness of one's own dignity and deep pleasure in one's achievements (Oxford). Arthur Miller the writer of The Crucible conveys that excessive pride can cause self doubt and a loss of identity.

It is ironic how the Puritans were called to lived a life exactly as the bible says, yet many of them sinned and lived quite oppositely. The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, touches on the misery during the Salem Witch Trials, and also how the Puritan community fell apart. The dark themes are common in most tragedies. Many of the main characters committed sins such as lust and greed, but the most detrimental sin committed was pride. Pride is prevalent in the actions of the tragic hero, John Proctor.
A Raisin in the Sun To be prideful is human nature, even when it hasn't been earned. Being proud of who you are and what you have accomplished is an important part of everyone's life, but sometimes we are prideful without something to be proud of. This kind of pride is shown in the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry through the character Walter Younger. He enters the play with a false sense of pride in being a man, despite the fact that he is a chauffeur who is struggling to support his family.

In Arthur Miller’s dramatic play The Crucible, John Proctor, the protagonist, symbolized truth and justice by displaying honor and pride in his name. The change in balance between those two attributes acted as a catalyst in defining moments of the play. In the beginning, Proctor equally reflected both pride and honor in separate events. However, when forced to make a decision, he chose honor over pride. Ultimately, both his honor and pride pushed him to commit the ultimate sacrifice.

Falsificationism, though, helped me to understand that induction is good for everyday life, but not for science. I learnt that it is possible to falsify someone’s theory or my theory be falsified, but Kuhn’s and Lakatos’ approaches made me understand that it is better not to abandon a theory even if it is falsified. Research programmes influenced me mostly, since the fundamental hypothesis of the hard core and the supplementary assumptions of the protective belt, can be better applied not only to physics, but also natural sciences. For me science has to be explained in an objective way, so the anarchistic theory of science did not influence me, because it talks about individual’s freedom and subjectivity. Finally, the modern approaches of Bayesianism and New Experimentalism did not satisfy me at all and they did not help me in order to define what science is.
