From early civilization to the present; medicine has tremendously advanced. Scientist have long proven that every human’s genome differs from one another. This also meant that medicines, treatments, and diseases affected everyone differently. So why would doctors use the standardized medicine for each individual person? Doctors, Scientist, and Engineers have studied and began practicing in personalized medicine. Personalized medicine is the study and practice of combining genetic information with clinical data in order to adjust the dosage of medicine to an individual’s special needs. Lawrence Lesko states “Personalized medicine can be viewed as a comprehensive, prospective approach to preventing, diagnosing, treating, and monitoring diseases …show more content…

Personalized medicine can reduce the risk of disease, cost of unnecessary treatments, trial and error treatments, drug-resistant infections, and possibly finding the cure to cancer. Unveiling the genetic makeup of your DNA can help identify on coming disease that may develop later in life. This discovery can lead to treatments way ahead of time and prevent a disease from ever happening. Many times in the practice of diagnosing and standardized medicine can lead to error. These errors can cause the patient a lot of harm due to expenses. Giving the wrong kind of treatment to a patient can render them from receiving the correct treatment because of the inability to pay. The standardized medicine that we currently use are constricted greatly. As years go by and the more drugs that are used to prevent disease and illnesses leaves the body only to adapt. Once medicine has been used to fight diseases and illnesses the bacteria that is left behind goes through the process of Darwinism. The bacteria then begins to build a resistance against the medicine once prescribed to defeat it. This leads to drug-resistant infections. Personalized medicine is made to fight incidents like these. Once doctors and scientist have uncovered an understanding to how drug resistance occurs, evolves, and spreads. The beginning steps can of more research for new medicines can begin. However this won’t be enough. This is why doctors, scientist, and engineers know the importance of advancing in personalized medicines. The main disease that many people encounter throughout the nation and other countries face is cancer. No successful cures have been found but, treatments have been discovered. Chemotherapy is the most commonly used technique to fight this disease. It’s the use of drugs to treat a disease; often this is through radiation therapy. Although chemotherapy has proven effective in some
