Right now hundreds of refugees are fleeing the war ravaged country of Syria with nothing but what they can carry. The United States does have a responsibility to take in the refugees because we are the great “Melting Pot” of the world, we help those in need and we stop those who are harmful. We are not doing any of the refugees a favor by turning them away at our gates, those who argued so strongly against the deporting of illegal immigrants, this is just as bad because these people need our help. The war in Syria has caused people to leave everything they love, their home and their country to find somewhere safe. That safe place should be the U.S, our country is safe and large enough to support these people 's so why are we turning them away.
Very recently the U.S agreed to take in 110,000 more refugees from war torn countries. This is under the refugee act of 1980. This act enables refugees to come into the U.S. originally the plan was to only let 10,000 refugees into the U.S but it was changed to 110,000 in 2016. We have only taken in 85,000 that is only 77.3 percent of the refugees what we promised to

Our ideals as a country are very simple, we do not discriminate or turn away those in need we are the golden country where refugees flee to for safety. We made a promise to take these people into our country with open arms. If you read the base of The Statue of Liberty you will notice that it reads “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” This quote states that we should take in people who need our help and right now that means the refugees, so I ask you again why are we turning them
