Sex trafficking is a terrifying issue that has been on the rise over the last few years in our country. Human trafficking has been one of the worst part of every culture for as far as history goes back. It started in the 1400’s and has been an issue ever since(“Timeline of Human”). There were 7,621 cases reported in the United States alone in 2016. Nearly 80% of human trafficking is for sex(Lehnardt,Karin). Although authorities are trying hard to get a handle on things, the wide spread and push back from its allies make this very difficult. Sex trafficking is when people are forced or coerced into sex trade against their will(McBane,Dawn). It profits an estimated $31.6 billion a year(Lehnardt,Karin). Making it one of the largest criminal enterprises in the world, right behind illegal drugs and arms. 90% of women trafficked are under the control of a pimp. They are typically sold for $400 an hour and are passed around to different men at least 40 times a week. Most women never even leave their region but aren’t found or rescued for long periods of time(McBane,Dawn). Referring back to my earlier example, Debbie, went through some very traumatic things once she was in the control of her captors. Once Debbie was tied up the men put tape across her mouth and an unloaded gun to her head and pulled the trigger multiple times just to scare her. They then drove around her hometown, Phoenix, for hours and then finally she was taken to a hotel just 25 miles away from her home. They made her sleep in a dog kennel and eat dog food. When she was taken to her next location she was thrown into the back of a car and forced back into the kennel. When they arrived she was in a run down, dirty apartment and was beaten and raped until her eventual rescue(“Teen Girls’
