Is one phone call or text really worth someone’s life? So many people are killed everyday due to distracted driving involving cellphones. Yet, so many are blinded by the situation. However, no one should use cellphones while driving because of the danger it provides, the accidents that’ll occur, and the lives that can be lost.
Using your cellphone while driving causes many dangerous situations. For instance, using a cellphone while driving exceeds the risk of drunk driving (Austin 139). Therefore, it must be extremely dangerous. Edgarsnyder.com states that there’s nearly 330,000 injuries occuring a year from accidents involving cellphones. The website also states that ¼ of every car accident in the United States is caused by texting and driving. If everyone would just wait till they are parked to answer a call, text, or use their phones, not as much accidents will occur.
Cellphone use while driving can cause many lives to be taken. According CBS News, page 137, police state that Alexander Heits received a message while on the road and right before he was able to respond, he jerked the steering wheel and went off the road, flipping his car. It was a devastating day for his mother and friends. Not only did it take the life of a person, it put his family in pain also. Some people may argue that using your phone while driving isn’t much of a difference than listening to the radio and talking to the someone in the car.
