Take the Time to Pull Over In 2016, over 39,000 people aged 25-34 were charged for texting while driving. This means that over 39,000 times in one year, innocent people are being put at risk of injury and even death because of many peoples foolish decision to text and drive. When you get into a car as the driver, do not text. Texting while driving puts you, your passengers, and others in danger. It is also illegal in most states. Texting while driving is not a smart decision. It is putting your life on the line, and other peoples. Being distracted on the road is very dangerous to everyone involved. Vehicle crashes on average happen within 3 seconds of being distracted by your cell phone. While texting and driving, you are 23 more times likely to crash than drivers who are not. In the 1.6 million car crashes that happen each year, over 500,000 people are injured and 6,000 people are killed, including drivers who caused the wreck. Over 18% of the 1.6 million crashes were caused by distracted driving. Do not be the one who causes heartbreak for another family, or even your own, because you felt the urgency to respond to a text. In some states, texting while driving is a class B or C criminal misdemeanor charge. Another possible penalty for texting while driving is jail time.
