Phones. It’s a piece of technology that most of us can’t go a few days without. It has basically become part of us, because of how often we use it to solve everyday problems. They are considered essential, especially if you’re a teenager. Cell phones help us in many great and vast ways, but they are also the cause of 1 out of 4 accidents on the highway. Texting while driving isn’t the only way you could harm yourself, there have been times where a pedestrian was texting and they’re not paying attention to what’s in front of them. It has been estimated, while driving and texting, you could lag a three to four second response. In that time a vehicle that is going 55 MPH could cover the distance of an entire football field! Texting while driving is NOT something you should get used to, or something you should do….EVER. Recently it was proven that over 40% of the people that admitted to texting while driving consider it a habit - an EVERYDAY routine. That’s like taking drugs and considering it an everyday routine. Quit the texting while driving, you never know you could save someone’s life. 77% of the teen population have said that they feel confident on texting while driving, they think that they can still drive safely and normally while texting. 55% of those teenagers have claimed that they can text while driving with a lot of ease. There have been a few laws passed down to make sure that this doesn’t happen. For example 10 states including D.C. have passed a law that prohibits all drivers from using handheld cell phones. Another law that was passed through 32 states and D.C. prohibited novice ( inexperienced ) drivers from cell phone use. Finally the one all drivers are tired of hearing in all of the 39 states (and D.C.) that it was accepted in prohibits all drivers to text while driving. Yet, all these facts about deaths and damages to the brain make this law seem like a joke! No one respects
