Persuasive Essay Against Legalizing Marijuana

I believe we should be addressing this issue because Marijuana is considered the more illicit drug in the United States. It is a drug that we all have heard about or maybe seen pictures of online but does anyone really know what marijuana is actually made of. “Marijuana is a combination of shredded leaves, stems and flower buds of the Cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana can be smoked, eaten, vaporized, brewed and even taken topically, but most people smoke it” (Cox, 2017, para 1). Marijuana until recently was considered to be an illegal drug and anyone who used it could be facing charges and jail time. However, this all changed when several states decided to vote on the right to use marijuana for medical and recreational use. I, myself, am not against the use of marijuana for medical purposes if it helps a person with their pain, especially if that person is facing a life threating illness and this is a source of relief. Many people that are using medical marijuana do not care about the possible physical or mind-altering consequences they could acquire due to use because they are worrying about more serious consequences like death. However, I do think a person needs to be aware of the physical and mind-altering side effects they could face because of their recreational choices. I agree that an adult is old enough to make their own choices and they have done reasonable will to get themselves this far. However, I do believe that adolescents need to pay attention to the possible side physical and mind-altering side effects they could inquire due to prolonged marijuana use.
