Why is alcohol still legal and being consumed if there have been so many negative effects? The effect of alcohol use has taken a toll not only on American citizens but citizens in other countries as well. Although, alcohol consumption has negative effects, it is being consumed for good reason. The cause of the negative effects, give reason to why there should be a ban on alcohol. Some drink to feel good, to fit in, or to feel mature. What is known but not enforced is the damages it does to the human body. If the effects were enforced would the drinking stop? According to D.L. Mayfield, “Alcohol starts to become an integral part of the brokenness I witness everyday: violence, mental health issues, sickness, and premature death” (40). Effects such as those is a big reason why drinking should no longer go on. Drinking alcohol slowly but surely kills off those who consume it. Although there are risks to all things “fun”, are the risks worth losing your life? In Wisconsin between the 15 year time period of 1963 and 1977 the rate of alcohol related deaths severely increased (Nashhold 1237). Like a lot of other things it is not largely publicized, to those who need to know. There lies the fact of an increase in alcohol consumption. The things that people to need to know are hidden, until they find out in a manner that is not recommended.
