The strive to become great, and be the champion is something that has helped Americans improve ourselves. We don’t settle for second place, always trying to take that final step between good and great. But maybe that’s not everyone. Some people are ok with just trying and not being the best they can be. Those are also the people that you will be ordering your McChicken and medium chocolate shake from. Losing sucks. Everybody understands that. But if no one ever has to lose, then no one can ever be able to win. We need to have a loser in order to have winner. This is damaging to our future because it gives kids the false idea that they are good enough and everything is equal. Kids aren’t learning that they have to do everything they can to be the best. They aren’t going to put in the work because they know that they will just get a participation award if they just show up. Winning can either be a good thing or a bad thing. Yeah it’s a good thing to win and it feels good to win, but you also could get lazy and think that you are the best so you might quit working hard. You might get a big head and stop doing everything you can to become better. But maybe you will get better because you know how to succeed and you will continue what you have been doing. Losing can also be a good or a bad thing. You might realize what you have done wrong and you might work harder to succeed. It could motivate you to do better because you realize that the sting of losing hurts. But you also might have worked hard in the first place and now you decide to give up and that it isn’t that important to you. This is a dangerous belief.
