Is drinking really all that fun? Is it worth your life? These are the questions most teens and young adults should be asking themselves. One drink or two will not hurt anyone, if done responsibly, but it can also lead to many more drinks in a short period of time, also known as binge drinking. Binge drinking is more common among high school teens and young adults, because of peer pressure. Everyone just wants to fit in, but what they do not know is that some things come with consequences. Binge drinking can result in many dangerous outcomes, ranging from mental to physical health problems. Most people think drinking can do no harm, but they do not realize the effects it can have. Everyone must always remember that no matter what one drink can always lead two and then to three and so on. There is a person I know that never used to drink, was a good student in school, and was a part of the “cool kid” crowd. Once he graduated, he started hanging out with older guys who influenced him to drink. He began to drink some here and there when he was around them. As teens grow up there bodies and attitude change because they are starting to turn into a young adult. They go through changes such as puberty which makes them strive for independence. This independence makes them think they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, and however they want. Teens act out in school and at home, because they do not like authority. When they have this mindset of independence they think they can make their own choices and one is drinking because they do not think anything is wrong with it. As confirmed by CDC study, “About ninety percent of the alcohol consumed by high school students is consumed through binging” (Teen Binge Drinking: All Too Common).
