According to Olivia Casino, 4.1% of people on death row are innocent. The issue of the death penalty is not something to be taken lightly. We have been executing people since we have been a country. In some of those executions innocent people are dying. The death penalty is also always changing because they are trying to find a more humane way to kill people, but there is no humane way to kill people. The death penalty needs to stop because innocent people are dying, it does not make sense to kill killers as a punishment for killing because killing is bad, and that life in prison is a worse punishment than death to some people.
According to Olivia Casino, an untold number of innocent people have died from false information that has put them on death row. In an article from Pantagraph Olivia Casino says that 1.6 percent of people on death row have been exonerated, but if the innocence rate is 4.1 percent, that is more than twice the rate of exonerations. When we kill somebody on death row it is because they have done something very bad. We call this capital punishment. To receive capital punishment you have to commit an unthinkable crime, in most cases this includes murder. What we are doing with capital punishment is killing people as a punishment for killing somebody else. This all revolves around the fact that killing is bad, and what Ben Urmston is talking about is that we are punishing people by killing them because they killed someone and killing is wrong. Essentially, we are killing killers as a punishment because killing is very wrong. This is very ironic an counterintuitive.
