“In 2017 approximately 15,270 children and adolescents ages 0 to 19 years will be diagnosed with cancer and 1,790 will die of the disease in the United States,” (cancer.gov). Cancer presents a big problem, and remains as one of the biggest unsolved problems in the world. Childhood cancer still needs more research, and through donations to proper organizations we can learn about new treatments and preventions.
Every day, children around the world die in one way or another. Kids die from diseases, lack of food and water, lack of housing, and many other reasons every day. Many preventions or treatments already exist in the United States, but one disease kills hundreds of kids each year. This disease is cancer. On average, five kids die from cancer every day. In a year, approximately one thousand eight hundred children in the United States die from cancer (cancer.gov). Cancer is not only a problem due to the disease, but the side effects of treatments of cancer have the chance to take one’s life as well.

Often times we look at how the children are affected directly, but we do not look towards how their families are affected. Many parents hear the dreaded words “I’m sorry, your child has cancer.” They often think that their child is going to die, but luckily with the advancements in technology this often is not the case. However, the real problems of cancer revolve around the effects that treatment can cause for children. With our current cancer treatment options, kids are often bullied or left out at school. Kids often are scared or told to by parents not to play with a kid that has had cancer because they may look different or are scared the cancer could spread. If we can find new ways to treat cancer instead of radiation, children will be much better
