From the list of hospitals given to us, I have selected to write my capstone project about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one reputable institution that so many people trust. It was named the nation's most trusted nonprofit brand in a 2010 poll conducted by Harris Interactive, a market-research firm (Joslyn, H. 2010). Through research and treatment, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital find cures and save children with cancer and other related life-threatening diseases. According to National Cancer Institute (n.d.), “Cancer is used to describe a group of diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control, invade nearby tissues, and spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems.” Cancer does not discriminate, it affects both children and adults, any age, race or economic background. The most common childhood cancer are leukemia, brain and other central nervous system tumors, and lymphoma. These types of cancers represents more than half of all cancers diagnosed in children but only a small fraction of the cancers diagnosed in adults. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, they have treatments that helps many children with cancer, blood disorders and related life-threatening diseases. In doing my research, I have read that once a child is eligible and accepted to go for treatment, St. Jude covers all hospital expenses, travel expense, food and housing. Every family, no matter what their income, they are covered (Elizabeth, 2015). With the high cost for treating any cancer, it is a great help for families that is going through this ordeal. It is wonderful that St. Jude Children’s Research hospital is providing to pay for the cost for treatment. This will allow the family to focus on their child that is being treated for the
