In order to receive help, one must ask loudly. When discussing the issues that Detroit, Michigan face you would think they would receive some from help. The current problems they face are not new, yet one group of individuals are not going to let it stand quiet any longer. Teachers going on sick outs is not a problem that school should want to face. Having so many teachers out of school results in closing school for that day and upset parents. Regardless of how frustrating it is for the community, it is also a wake up call and students should support these teachers. Teachers are putting so much on the line to stand up for what they believe in. The bravery that they have developed only goes to show how strongly they feel. The fact is the building that is called a ‘school’ is not safe for teaching or learning. Students should not have to face abnormal growth out of walls, dead rodents in hallways, fifty degree classrooms, or moldy meals in the cafeteria at a school. As a young person in this society, I know how difficult it can be to face everyone else and share your opinion. However, young people have voice and that voice is powerful. The teachers need the support for any action to take place. The students of our society are the people of tomorrow. They will be the ones making technological advances, medical miracles, and political changes. In order to do that, we have the responsibility as citizens to provide them with the necessary opportunities in education. How could anyone possibly expect our young people to make the future better if we aren’t giving them what they need?
