Prejudice is“an opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.” In the United States, black people could not sit in the front of buses or use the same water fountains as white people until the 1950s and 1960s, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese that lived in the US were rounded up and put into camps because of the war with Japan and the holocaust happened because of a prejudice towards jewish, homosexual and disabled people. Those are all historical examples of prejudice. And I would like to think that we have learned from our history, but there’s still prejudice happening around the world today. The people who need to do this the most are the countries that produce the most media, then the most people will see or read it. Because media is a huge part how humans learn about other countries and cultures. Hollywood is an example, they make a lot of movies every year. They can make movies with more diversity. But not all movies with diversity should be about the diversity. If you have a gay main character don’t make the movie about being them being gay. Just make a movie with an interesting plot and add a romantic side plot just like a lot of movies do. Just make the characters in the love story both men or women instead of one man and one woman. When you do that it normalizes being gay like it’s no big deal. And when you normalize something people will stop seeing as something different, and that is usually where prejudice comes from. Someone being different than you. But some movies should be about the diversity, that spreads information so the people who don't belong to the group can see what it's like for them, the good and the bad. They can see the potential harm it can cause when people don't accept you for something you can't
