The Effects of Euthanasia Have you ever heard the term animal euthanasia? If so, have you ever considered the consequences, or the effects of it? If you have ever been to a traditional shelter, you have seen all the homeless animals. Once there are too many animals, the shelters euthanize them. This has become a problem in this world, and many animals have been euthanized, so much so, that people came up with animal shelters with no kill policies. In fact, nealy 2.7 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year, just by shelters alone! In this text, you will see the effects of euthanasia.

Gas chambers sometimes leak the carbon monoxide that poisons the animals, and when they open the chamber, then it allows the remaining gas to come out. In fact, the article, “HSUS Condemns the Use of Gas Chambers for Euthanasia of Animals in Shelters,” it states, “... the use of gas chambers actually poses greater physical and psychological harm to staff.” It is probable that the vets are breathing in a great amount of carbon monoxide from the gas chambers, and my guess is that the gas chambers are a lot harder to watch than a shot that kills the animals in a faster, less painful death. Both of these statistics could lead to the mental and physical health issues of vets. The article, “ToxFAQs™ for Carbon Monoxide,” it confirms, “Headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, chest pain, weakness, heart failure, difficulty breathing, seizures and coma have been reported in people inhaling carbon monoxide.” If others that have been exposed to carbon monoxide and had these reactions, then vets who are present with gas chambers may have the same reactions.
