Financial aid is a program for any grant, scholarship, loan, or paid employment offering to help us, students, meet college expenses. There are rules, also known as eligibility criteria, to determine who gets the aid. The financial aid needs are: to be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, and enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program at the college you will be attending. Now, one of the biggest things going on right now in the United States is immigration. Most of the immigrants that come to the U.S. are teenagers, these teens choose to come and get an education here and they really do take the advantage of graduating from a high school and want to attend to a college. Andrea wants to study Marine Biology at the California State University of Monterey Bay. She said, “I was signing up for financial aid with my counselor and unfortunately they told me that since I am an undocumented student I am not eligible. I asked if by being a resident here in the U.S. for fifteen years would count also but it does not.” Personally, I think that by being a resident here in the U.S. should be able to count as something but the country does not think so. To be honest, this country does not give immigrants a chance for anything even if it means to better something in their life. This country and some of its citizens believe that immigrants come to the U.S. and take away jobs, the education of their children, pay nothing in taxes, made the health care system on verge to collapse, create more ‘gangs’ on the streets, and more drug cartels around when it is not like that. I recall once reading an article where a citizen once said, “Undocumented people are ‘cheating’ American students out of college and universities.” Most Americans do not understand the struggle of immigrants, immigrants have to work twice as hardest to provide for their families, some that they might have left behind before coming to the U.S. and want to show their children that working in something they do not enjoy is not fun nor will it ever get
