From a student and teacher standpoint, I think that there is way too much emphasis on high stakes testing. All year you hear teachers say “You’re going to need to know this when you take the FSA”. It is insane how much you hear about these types of test, even at the beginning of the school year. Another bad thing about high stakes testing is that teachers only worry about these forms of test. Throughout the year, teachers forget about teaching the material and worry about teaching to the test. For example, there are these Unit packets that are based around FSA material. However; when it comes to test, I get test anxiety and I do poorly. If any of my teachers were measured off of my tests, I would feel bad for them. There are also kids that come to school, the day of the test, worried that their whole life depended on their performance. For some, doing poorly could keep them from graduating, could keep them from moving on to the next grade level, or could keep them from being on grade level. It is crazy to think that this much rides on high stakes
