Homeless issue Of Oregons 3.79 million inhabitants (as of 2014 (U.S. Census Bureau)) 13,238 people are homeless.(KGW) This is comparatively low to other states but is still visible in most major cities. Homelessness in oregon needs to be taken care of that benefits our state as a whole. A few ways we can control and reduce homelessness is providing shelters and sufficient jobs. Shelter is one of the most important aspects of survival, especially in oregon. There are a variety of shelters in oregon ranging from day shelters to rehab centers. In a typical season portland can receive around 46 Inches of rain and 4 inches of snow.(U.S Climate Data) For a average person who owns or rents a house this is nothing but a burden, for the homeless population this can be a matter of life and death. Once again the main cause of homelessness in oregon is lack of money. Although I proved that it is possible to survive in Portland it will not be easy. Most if not all of the homeless population lacks motivation and drive to become rich. If one put in 110% in everything they did they can rise up and become better. It is not hard to get a job in portland if you are willing and apply yourself. Everyone has to start somewhere, some people just have advantages. If a homeless person wanted to get schooling all they had to do is try. Money is always the issue. Without money, people lose their homes, homeless shelters can not be built and maintained, and jobs are loss. Overall this is a life lesson to teach everyone: living in portland in extremely hard unless you have a well paying job and are motivated.
