Homelessness in Ohio has become more and more apparent now these days. Due to the increase in drug and alcohol abuse we are seeing this on our streets for more frequently. In this paper I am going to talk about the population that is most affected and ways we can help decrease the homeless in Ohio.
Homeless in Ohio In 2014 we had the highest rate of homeless people in Ohio ranking in at a total of 578,424 people with 69% living in residential homes and the other 31% living on the streets. (www.hudexchange.info) Even though these numbers are significantly high we have seen a good decrease since 2010. Everywhere you go in Ohio you will encounter cities and rural areas where the homeless are living. This could be on a street corner, dumpster or even and abandoned house. We see this because they are trying to find a roof over their head to get out of harm or they just need a quiet warm place to sleep. What they don’t understand is the responsibility that comes along with moving out on your own. According to The Annual Homeless Assessment report 2014, approximately 23% of homeless are children 18 years of age and younger and 10% of the population being in between the years of 18-24. (www.hudexchange.info) In order to decrease this from happening we need to make a plan to help educate the youth about homelessness and all the responsibilities that living on your own comes with. Homelessness not only happens in children but in adults as well. Adults round out the findings with being at 66% in 2014. (www.hudexchange.info) Are goal for 2015 was for this percentage to be lower but unfortunately this did not happen. With the recent Heroin epidemic happening all around the state this has increased our homeless
