Medical marijuana should indeed be legalized for use. The main reason as to why some governments have allowed marijuana to be legal is because of its numerous medical benefits. They claim that they have made it legal because it is health benefits exceed the negative ones. However, they have put certain limits to how much marijuana one should have in his possession. So as to see its health benefits, it is important to see which diseases marijuana treats and how. Cancer patients claim that medical marijuana (marinol) helps them go through the treatment with less pain. Cancer treatment is painful, stressful and has side effects like nausea, vomiting and anorexia. Marijuana helps the patients be oblivious of the pain, it causes them to be hungry, and it prevents the feeling of nausea. Doctors recommend marijuana for cancer patients as it helps ease the pain (Zanni 34). Medical marijuana is also recommended for patients suffering from depression and stress. Cannabis helps the patient be at ease as it soothes the brain, makes the patient less anxious and more relaxed (Hollister 47).
