Legalization of medical marijuana is a popular debate in our country’s society. Recently some states have begun to legalize the medical use of marijuana; but, the government has not allowed this fascinating and life-changing medicine’s full use in all states. It has been proven through trials to be effective in the treatment of a variety of serious medical conditions; including, cancer, AIDS, seizure disorders, anxiety, glaucoma, and inflammatory diseases. Medical marijuana is a preferred method of treatment for many people because of it’s shocking and successful results. Medicine is science; it is not a political opinion of what is right and wrong. The government should not be allowed to put limits on our medical treatment plans. Patients deserve the best possible treatment option; and if this is the best for them, they should be allowed to use it. Currently, twenty-three states and the District of Columbia have legalized the medical use of marijuana. There are currently over 1,000,000 patients prescribed medical marijuana in the U.S. That number is increasing and shows just how many people benefit from it’s medical abilities. Marijuana isn’t the only cure for cancer patients and it can be easily substituted for a different method, but “cancer patients using cannabis report better influence from the plant extract than other synthetic substituted products” (Vorobeichik). Many prescriptions, even though they are helping, can be toxic. However “marijuana is less toxic than many of the drugs that physicians prescribe every day”
