“It is not seen as insane when a fighter, under an attack that will inevitable [sic] lead to his death, chooses to take his own life first. In fact, this act has been encouraged for centuries, and is accepted even now as an honorable reason to do the deed. How is it any different when you are under attack by your own mind?” ( Emilie Autumn, The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls) In the 1990s, Internet started to become available to the public. Not too long after, the creation of e-mail came about. This was an easy form of communication from person to person. Since invented, the internet has became a problem. This is not referring to technological errors; but, the harmful virus that continues to rapidly spread throughout our world. This has …show more content…

On a webpage dedicated to a foundation for Megan; her mom shares her story and what led up to this disaster. Tina Meier states, "Megan had a lifelong struggle with weight and self-esteem," Tina says. "And now she finally had a boy who she thought really thought she was pretty."("Megan's Story.") Being a girl, you know exactly why this had reeled her in. Women seek self approval in any way we can. No, I am not saying that it’s just for females; men do this as well. Megan clearly did not feel good about herself and when the chance came for a guy to give her this “approval”, she grabbed onto it and held on tight. This boy that had made her feel wanted; turned on her in no time. Megan would get online only to find, "They are posting bulletins about me." A bulletin is like a survey. "Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat."("Megan's Story.") Obviously this had upset her quite a bit. Megan had ran upstairs to her room; crying hysterically. Downstairs, Tina and Ron Meier were talking about the situation and Tina had paused in the middle of her sentence with this gut wrenching feeling, "I had this God-awful feeling and I ran up into her room and she had hung herself in the closet."("Megan's Story.") What I found horrified me to the core. Lori and Ron had wanted to contact Josh; hoping to make him realize the power that words hold, if used harmfully. But, his account was no longer there. Around six weeks after Megan’s death; a neighbor from down the street came to the Meier’s with shocking news, “She told the Meiers that Josh Evans was created by adults, a family on their block.”("Megan's Story.”) Can you believe it? Not only was Josh a fraud account; he was also created by an adult. I can’t even imagine what that news did to the Meier’s. Never will there be words for this individual that could stand to do this to anyone; let alone a thirteen year old girl. Lori Drew is her name. But, she was not alone. Drew claims that another individual; a teenage girl created the account. But, Lori had a pretty large part in the destruction of Megan. Why did she do this? Well, it seems that Megan had been gossiping and talking down on Drew’s daughter; who was once her friend. Even if this was true, it gives her no right to do this. The situation was brought to court; for obvious reasons. The case did not go as Tina Meier would have thought, or anyone for that matter. A internet article over the case stated, “ But today, at her sentencing, the judge threw out her convictions“("Lori Drew Acquitted in Megan Meier Case: What to Do About Cyberbullying?") All convictions against Lori Drew were tossed out.
