The American healthcare system has recently drawn attention based on government action.
The recent repeal of the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare” has come under much scrutiny. The
Affordable Care Act was meant to give all Americans affordable healthcare. While this system had some success, many claimed it was too expensive and unreliable. The Affordable Care Act could be seen as a steppingstone to the United States becoming a welfare state, like Norway and
Canada, where the cost for medical expenses is covered by taxes. However, upon examining these systems, it is safe to say that the United States should not adopt a similar system. Based on

Nations like Norway, France and Canada have healthcare as inclusions of citizenship. How could Americans who believe in
“Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness,” not have “free healthcare?” The reason is because the United States government’s purpose of “Promoting the general welfare,” focuses on physical harm and the improvement of public areas, whereas Health Care is private. The United States government works using checks and balances of power, when the government controls the public’s medical life, they effectively control every citizen privately. This could lead to unsavory actions and corruption by the government. Along with the threat of terrorism and cyber-attacks, every
American citizens’ private information could easily be accessed and exploited.
While other nations do have “free healthcare,” the taxes in these nations are exponentially higher. Within these nations you are also assigned medical checkups by the government. The medical system in these nations are extremely slow, crowded, and could potentially be
