It is startling to realize there are too many organs being buried in Canadian land and too many lives constantly waiting for a donor match to keep one’s body alive. According to the Canadian Transplant Society, 90 per cent of Canadians supports organ donations. However, less than 20 per cent have made plans to donate following their afterlife. In fact, the Healthy Canadians website stated, “Our organ donation rates are lower than many other countries, including the United States.” Nonetheless, we as Canadians can do better and increase the number of organ donors each year to save countless of lives who need organ and stem cell/bone marrow donations.

Ronnie Gavsie, president and CEO of the Trillium Gift Of Life Network announced, “On average, every three days one person [in Ontario] dies waiting for a transplant,” so certainly we can improve the results. In addition, the Healthy Canadians website posted that in the past ten years, the number of organ donors has gone up by 44 per cent. However, the number of people needing a transplant has gone up as well. According to CTS, Canadian Transplant Society, over 1,600 Canadians are added to organ wait list yearly. In addition, for many patients, organ transplants will never arrive, mostly because of Ontario’s low organ donation rate. …show more content…

Indeed, this is a great example that displays the enormous effect of organ donations.
