The topic of my American Government paper is prayer in public schools. I chose this topic because we have business meetings at Job Corps and I hear some of the speakers asking for a “moment of silence” instead of saying “let us pray.” I also hear them say, “I am not pushing religion, but keep such and such in your thoughts.” I wondered why it is not acceptable to say the work God and openly pray in a school forum. Job Corps is a government ran program. We have to recite the Pledge of Allegiance which clearly says “Under God, Indivisible.” So here is this program ran by the government who admits to being under God and yet we cannot. This is a topic that goes to an even broader scale and one deserving of some research.
The first thing I will look into are the laws about prayer in public schools. This would fall under the legislature branch of the United States government. Children are punished for being themselves or believing in a higher power that’s different from yours? Children die because their skin isn’t the same color? Many children commit suicide because their afraid of being themselves; the kids now a days aren’t not only contemplating but following through with it because they believe that the life they life has no purpose because the people around them made them feel worthless and a waste of life player’s in the school shouldn’t be no different than being homosexual or being Hispanic; people are different and live different lives, America is very scared of what’s not normal to them or what they believe is right as if they were God
