Abuse of Prescription Drugs The abuse of prescription drugs in America is a serious problem. Prescription drugs such as depressants, antidepressants, opioids and stimulants are abused every day in America and this abuse has resulted in many deaths. Just in America alone 44 people die everyday from overdosing on prescription drugs. People often think that prescription drugs aren't as harmless as illegal drugs but thats is only true if you take it as prescribed, when abused prescription drugs can cause health problems especially when they are mixed with alcohol or other drugs.
Every person in the world is different in their own way, some people have medical problems which require medication that is prescribed by a doctor. Some of these medications can have a mind-altering effect and because of that people abuse them. Some of the types of medication that is abused are opioids, antidepressants, depressants and stimulants. Most teenagers believe that prescription drugs are safe because they have been prescribed by a doctor which is partly true but not quite. Even though prescription drugs are prescribed by a doctor, patients are still monitored to see how the medication reacts and to make sure the patient hasn’t become addicted to their medication. Most medications come in a pill form that is taken orally, but abusers will sometimes crush up the pill and snort it through their nose which quickens the entry to the bloodstream and brain and also enhance the effect of the medication.
