Over the years there has been a rise in both prescription drug abuse and legal substances abuse among teenagers. It is estimated that there is over 5 million teenagers who have abused their own medication. Many teens suffer from addiction to prescription drugs which has destroyed many families, lives, and in many cases causes death. Not only that but many teens as well as parents have come up with the idea that prescription drugs are a better or safer alternative rather than using “street drugs” such as cocaine or ecstasy. But the reality is that prescription drugs are just as dangerous as any type of drug and abusing any type of drug has terrible consequences.Another concern that many parents should worry about is the rise in drug abuse of tobacco and alcohol. But it can only help those with that medical condition it can't help everybody and if parents continue to have that mindset that these drugs can not only help their children but actually boost their performance. What these parents will wind up doing is destroying their children's lives rather than helping them. Another conceived notion is that essentially parents feel that it's fine if their child takes prescription drugs rather than street drugs because they are safe to use and can cause no real harm.
