Rabies is a virus that is transmitted through the saliva of infected animals, usually through a bite. This virus is deadly to all that are infected with it, and there is no known cure to rabies. Considering how rabies cannot be cured and the infected will attempt to pass the virus to others, an ethical question has arisen in humans regarding whether or not rabid animals should be put down. In my own opinion, I feel that rabid animals should be put down as they will die a slow as the nervous system malfunctions.
Rabies is a very controversial topic as some people feel that all life is sacred and should be preserved, while others feel that animals with rabies should be put down so the virus will not spread. This argument has expanded to involve prevention of rabies through vaccines, as it can be stopped from appearing in animals at all. After interviewing and questioning my class, I have found that sixteen people feel that rabid animals should be put down; while eight feel that they should not. …show more content…

After asking questions with the group and receiving a pamphlet that they use to inform people about rabies, it has become apparent that there is no other option, and rabid animals must be put down. The Human Society may feel this, but also puts the animals in quarantine for 10 days. If the symptoms show, the animal is euthanized and its tissues and saliva are tested for the rabies virus. I talked with the Society a lot, and found out that rabies does not have a cure, and there is not even a VIABLE cure to be tested.
