The global refugee crisis is one of the most pressing and controversial issues we have to face today. With the largest number of displaced people around the world in history, the situation has grown dire. Statistics show that a staggering 60 million people around the globe are “asylum seekers, internally displaced, or refugees”, most of which come from conflict zones such as Syria, Sudan, and Afghanistan. As they travel overseas to seek shelter in countries such as the United States and Canada, the countries they travel to have to make a crucial decision whether to accept them or not. Some countries have welcomed refugees with open arms, with countries such as Germany and Turkey accepting millions of immigrants. Other countries though, deny them access, as shown by the actions of the current President of the United States creating an immigration ban from seven muslim countries. If the Canadian government refuses entry to immigrants coming from conflict zones where death is a very real and possible outcome of living there, they will most likely die if forced to seek shelter elsewhere or forced back into their home country. By taking these refugees into society, we can give them a second chance to rebuild their lives and start anew. Furthermore, Canada is a multicultural country which supports freedom and the idea that every person should be treated equally and with respect, making it illogical for one to refuse another person to enter the country simply because of their race or religion. Every person is human after all, no matter where they were born and how they were raised. From the points stated above, one can conclude that in terms of ethics, it is best to take in refugees because of the values and beliefs our country has laid
