"In today_Ñés technologically advanced world, billions of people use the internet to find information, communicate with each other, and entertain themselves through the use of social media. Many people know that the government and local authorities are actively monitoring things on the internet, but to what extent should internet content be monitored? In my opinion, internet content should only be overseen by the government when there are threats to national security, when cyberbullying is taking place or when evidence of crimes are posted online.
Government Surveillance Programs like The Justice Department, IRS, The Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the National Security Agency intercept internet communications. These programs retrieve documents, emails, search histories, and monitor your activity on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Schools monitoring what their students do on social media helps to maintain a safe environment for students and teachers. For example, if a student begins to cyberbully his or her classmate, monitoring is needed so that attention is brought to the issue immediately. The school could then notify the bully_Ñés parents about his or her actions. The example provided is an effective use of internet monitoring and helps to keep students safe in out of school and in school settings.
