Road crashes are the number one cause of death among healthy americans in the U.S. (ASIRT). There are many factors that cause the number of vehicle death rates to increase. The biggest rationale which continues to increase is texting and driving. Texting while driving has been reported to reduce a humans concentration on the road by approximately 400 percent (“Texting and Driving Accident Statistics”). Although texting and driving continues to be a major concern, drunk driving rates have also been dramatically high over the past years. Well over 10,000 deaths due to drunk driving accounted for 28 percent of all vehicle fatalities in 2016 (“Alcohol-Impaired Driving”). The company Watco has been among the highest mileage out of any autonomous company tracking 5 million miles on public roads (Ohnsman). Uber also has strong interest in driverless car technology. Uber proclaimed a contract with Volvo to buy 24,000 cars from them in 2019. Aside from these companies, Daimler, Volkswagen, BMW and GM are also heavily engaged in driverless car technology (Lee). These companies have been working hard to advance the progression of driverless cars for various reasons. As many tests have been accomplished, many question whether or not driverless cars should be implementing into the world today.
