Why Texting and Driving Should Be Illegal
Texting and driving is a serious issue that has been the cause of numerous accidents and fatalities on the road. While many argue that they can multitask and handle the dangers of texting while driving, the reality is that texting and driving is a dangerous activity that puts not only the driver, but also other road users at risk. Therefore, it is crucial that stricter laws are put in place to discourage this type of risky behavior. Public awareness of texting while driving and the dangers that come with it are also needed to be enforced.
Firstly, texting while driving distracts the driver away from the road. Celeste Tholen a common researcher says that when a driver is texting, their eyes are not fully focused on the road, and their response time is slowed down. This can lead to the driver failing to notice important road signs traffic lights and other road users. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), texting while driving makes drivers 23 times more likely to get into an accident.

They argue that many people can handle texting and driving without any issues and that important text messages are answered while driving. However, this argument is flawed. Even if someone can text and drive without incident, they are still putting other road users at risk. To further the point, just because someone has not gotten into an accident while texting and driving does not mean that they never will. It only takes one moment of distraction on your phone to cause a fatal injury of
