We, as a society, are governed in two places; reality and virtuality. Stuck on our phones, tablets, and watches for hours on end, it slowly becomes our life, creating a sense of reality. To be unfollowed breaks a teenage girl’s heart, and having too little likes on his picture makes the boy a little less confident in himself. Social Media connects us with friends and family, but also strangers. It’s fun to text every now and then, but on a constant basis becomes a distraction costing lives. Yes, Social Media is an excellent way to stay in the circle of your social status, however it is often used negatively, bringing complications to our society. Most people are guilty of texting while driving. We become so absorbed in our technology that we begin to distract ourselves from important tasks, such as driving safely. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, in 2015 alone 3,477 lives were claimed because of texting and driving. All of those lives could have still been here today and this is only within the United States.
