Over recent years, people have been fascinated with being more and more convenient with their time. Some of these results have been helpful, but one specific example of this turning into a dangerous problem that many teens and young adults are doing, is texting while driving. “In 2011, the most recent year available, 3,331 people were killed and 387,000 injured in distracted-driving crashes,”(Copeland). My solution to this problem would be to promote voice to text, and calling someone instead of texting. A good amount of people use the “hey Siri” option on their phone and text that way, but many people still don't use it, don't know how to use it, or think,”it's too much work.” The feature only takes a minute to set up, but if it is used more often it can save lives. To access it, you go to Siri in the settings of your iphone, swipe the “allow Hey Siri” option to the right, so it turns green, and then say 5 phrases into your microphone. …show more content…

If the U.S. is truly one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, we should use this technology to increase safety, and not put us at risk. In order to get more people to use this, and to prevent texting and driving related incidents, Apple should have notifications pop up on your screen reminding you to set it up until you do it. This example has already proven to work, because Apple promotes their new software updates like this. Studies show that only 3% of people use Siri in public, which is most likely due to the fact that they are embarrassed of looking ridiculous and being made fun of, but if more people start using this feature, and they know that it can put them on the track to protecting themselves and their family, it can become the social norm, and more people will use
