College sports in the US have risen to the spotlight over the past decades. Each year many more fans and supporters of the tradition begin watching and supporting the games hosted by colleges and universities. While it could be said that there are some downsides to colleges fully supporting their teams, there are far more benefits for the school and the entire community; not just the given sports team itself. These advantages consist of greatly increased revenue and school spirit for schools, more students graduating high school looking to join colleges, and communities as a whole can be supported by these colleges.
It could be said that it pays to be the best. And in this situation that is certainly true, with some colleges that have prominent football teams making millions of dollars just off of these teams. One strong example of this is the University of Alabama, which has made over 20 million dollars some years due to their massive success.

To some it may seem too expensive or just not worth it in today's world. However one major factor that can change the minds of many high school students is sports and how well known a college is. While a very small percentage of students at a college actually compete in sports, students look to join a college not only because of what it can offer academically but also its sports programs and their success as well.
