Fear can also take over a person’s life after a school shooting happens. Students, teachers, support staff, and administration have a hard time returning to the place they once deemed safe. Point blank, no one can ever prepare for a school shooting. The effects afterward you have to take in stride and meet the victims where there at. Grimm remembers being extremely fearful all those years back and what helped him was the reminder from God to not fear. God wants us to know that he is in control. No matter what happens in life we need to walk on water like Jesus did, and have faith that we’ll reach the other side. Everyone is unique when it comes to dealing with trauma, so it’s up to how the victim deals with problem-solving skills internally. All victims should be encouraged to speak to a counselor to help sort out the traumatic experience. “Engaging trust communicates to the client that he/she has the ability to recover and grow” (Altmaier, 2011).
