Fear can also take over a person’s life after a school shooting happens. Students, teachers, support staff, and administration have a hard time returning to the place they once deemed safe. Point blank, no one can ever prepare for a school shooting. The effects afterward you have to take in stride and meet the victims where there at. Grimm remembers being extremely fearful all those years back and what helped him was the reminder from God to not fear. The Bible says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10, NIV). God wants us to know that he is in control. No matter what happens in life we need to walk on water like Jesus did, and have faith that we’ll reach the other side. Everyone is unique when it comes to dealing with trauma, so it’s up to how the victim deals with problem-solving skills internally. All victims should be encouraged to speak to a counselor to help sort out the traumatic experience. “Engaging trust communicates to the client that he/she has the ability to recover and grow” (Altmaier, 2011). The victims should be advised to attend to their own self-care, watch their emotional health, avoid media, set up a great support system with family/friends, and if necessary seek out further assistance with a trained professional. “Through mindfulness, trauma survivors may build strength and resilience by acquiring a sense of control, developing internal resources for symptom reduction and healing, and facilitating the meaning-making process” (Goodman & Calderon,
