The Holocaust The Holocaust was a systematic murder of mainly the Jewish community in Europe (Strahinich 7). This killing of two-thirds of the Jewish population, 6 million Jews, was part of the Nazi’s “Final Solution” plan to exterminate all Jewish community members (Introduction). The Holocaust took place in countries in Europe like Poland, Austria, Hungary, and Germany (Introduction). Many of these deaths took place in concentration camps like Auschwitz, ghettos like The Warsaw Ghetto, and death marches (Introduction). Sadly, the Nazis did not only murder the Jews. 5 million non-Jews were killed, for example, Gypsies, handicaps, Communists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, and prisoners of war (Strahinich 17). The Nazis did this for a quicker way to kill the Jews instead of waiting for them to die from starvation and disease in the ghettos (MacKay 33). Jews would go through a selection process and if they were able to work they would be used as free labor to help the Nazis in the war (Concentration).
Around the year of 1941 Nazis changed their tactics for genocide from placing them into ghettos to placing them into concentration camps (MacKay 33). 1939-1942 saw the Nazis making more concentration camps (Concentration).
Auschwitz was one large concentration camp with several death and labor camps inside of it (Anatomy). Eventually, almost all of the concentration camps that were made had several subcamps that were in it that were used to produce raw materials (Concentration).
Towards the end of the war American, British, and the Soviet Union liberated the Jews from a variety of different concentration camps (Fremon 109). U.S. troops liberated the Buchenwald and Dachau camps and British troops liberated Bergen-Belsen (Liberation). The Soviets were first to liberate
